Serves 2

This is your basic oatmeal breakfast cereal. You can vary it with all kinds of fruit, nuts, and so on.

1 cup rolled oats (not Quick Oats)

½ tsp. salt

2-1/2 cups water

(1 tsp. ground cinnamon)

(1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins)

(1/4 cup crushed walnuts)

  1. Place oatmeal, salt and cinnamon (if using) in a saucepan, add water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring frequently, for about 10 minutes. When adding fruits or nuts, you will need to add about another 1/2 cup water.
  2. If using cranberries, nuts or raisins, add while the cereal is coming to a boil.
  3. When oatmeal is soft to the taste, serve in bowls with brown sugar, butter or whatever you like.
