Basmati Rice

Makes about 3 cups

Indian Basmati rice is not to be confused with American Texmati or rice from anywhere else. It is fragrant, long-grained and cooks up as separate kernels. Other rices -- Jasmine, Arborio, etc. -- are for other purposes.

1 tbsp butter

1 cup Basmati rice

2 cups water

½ tsp salt

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan.
  2. Add the rice and stir until it is coated with butter.
  3. Add 2 cups water and salt.
  4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook for 15 minutes (other kinds of rice may take longer).
  5. Stir and serve.
